The Forces of Despair just wouldn't quite. No matter how many times they failed, no matter how irrelevant they became, no matter how much the world left them behind as it recovered, there were still those who carried out Junko's will. So be it. It gave everyone else in the world a vent for their more primal... urges.
Take Akane Owari. She had been hungry for quite some time now (a whole five minutes!) and second lunch wasn't due for another hour or so. So she was jumping from building to building, searching for eats to tide her over until then. Unfortunately, she ended up in territory still in the possession of the Despairs.
Unfortunate for the Despairs, that is. They had gotten the idea in their heads to make good use of the many, MANY bodies lying around, living or dead, by opening up a fast food chain. Premium people meat for all! Freshly ground! They revelled in the despair their customers felt after learning the secret ingredient well after seven helpings and business was booming! However, their choice in decor and their scheduled meeting inside of it would be their undoing.
"Man, I'm soooooooo hungry right now!" Akane whined. "Stupid Coach not giving me extra portions! I only had five steaks for lunch, didn't get to finish my pot roast, and all the frozen yogurt places are still closed!" Akane continued to head into the city, not paying attention to where she was going as her stomach growled. Drool starting to pool from her mouth, Akane was focused entirely on food. "Big fluffy cotton candy clouds up there... sidewalk looking like ice cream if I squint a little, that shrubbery reminds me of cake, not to mention the giant cheeseburger over there... wait, hold the phone!"
Halting in her tracks, Akane took another look at what she had just seen. Heavens be praised! There it was! A giant cheeseburger, just sitting there and all for her! Rushing over, she took an incredible leap that had her landing right in front of it. With the amazing strength that she took advantage of in situations like this, Akane got to work.
"Yum yum yummy, all this meat gonna go to my tummy!" Akane cheered.
Lifting the burger out of the ground, the foundations holding it in the ground snapping off like pretzel sticks. Akane hoisted the mammoth sized meal up and opened her mouth wide! However, before she could even close her mouth to take her first bite, she felt something slide in her mouth. It was a meaty something, but certainly too small to be the whole patty? Wait, there was another! And another! Gulping it down, she opened her mouth again, and was pleased to see more of this meaty something tumbling in!
"Oh! I get it! This must be a meat lover's burger! More meat on top of the main patty meat!"
That would be the full extent of thinking Akane would accomplish for the duration of her meal. She resumed her task of swallowing any toppings that broke from the burger to her waiting jaw. She wasn't going to waste a single bite of this delicious treat. Not even a crumb! Had she stopped to look for one second, however, she would have realized that what she was eating wasn't a giant cheeseburger, but a giant novelty restaurant in the SHAPE of a cheeseburger. She would have also realized that what she was currently gulping down wasn't a meat filling, but the terrified and screaming patrons of the restaurant. Thankfully, every patron was a member of the Remnants of Despair holding a meeting to congratulate themselves for feeding the populace human meat, crushing puppies, and generally being the worst kinds of people. So, as the screams of "Junko save us!" and good old "I don't wanna die! I don't wanna die!" echoed throughout the block, one didn't feel too bad about this.
With the last of the filling swallowed and quieted, Akane gave a silent thank you for her ability to take in food without having to chew and got to work on the burger. For those in her belly, they could only watch in horror as their tight confines became even tighter with their headquarters coming in down after them...
*BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPP!*
With an expulsion of gas from her mouth so powerful she obliterated the street, Akane sighed in satisfaction. "Oh yeah, that's the stuff!" Akane slapped her now massive belly in appreciation, causing another bubble of gas to work its way up her throat, which she allowed access to the outside world with no resistance.
*BUUUUUUUUUURRRRPPP!*
"Whew... got to say, that was sure tasty. Wonder if there are any more around here?" Akane wondered aloud as she turned around, her heaving gut swaying with her. It really was most impressive that Akane wasn't immobilized whatsoever despite the belly she was now sporting.
As Akane pondered her choices, a massive pale foot crashed behind her, shaking the surrounding area. While most would have fled in terror, Akane didn't even flinch, turning around with a big grin on her face as she greeted her friend. "Yo Chiaki! How you and Harry getting it on?" "His name is Hajime, Akane. And we're doing great, thanks. Just dropped him off at Soda's when I heard an explosion? Thought it might be you." The giantess Chiaki Nanami replied, smiling down at the much smaller (yet till enormous in her own way) woman. "You look full. Did you get something good to eat?" "Oh yeah, found myself a giant burger in the street, just sitting there! Was soooooo good. I've got to ask Teruteru if he can make me one just like it!" Akane laughed, belching once more as her belly sloshed, having already starting to digest its contents.
"A giant burger? Really?" Chiaki asked. "That is so lucky! Maybe I can find one around here...." She had been hoping for real food to satisfy her size for some time now. Eating rubble and concrete was an option... but she'd desired something tasty ever since she had been reunited with the gang.
"I'd be willing to share, as long as you do the same for me!" Akane laughed. "And you better promise me you will, because honestly..." Her belly rumbled, hard at work turning its contents into goop. "...I'm kinda hungry for seconds."
